Spotted: Gossip Girl Fashion, 1 Year Later

An ode to our favorite Upper East Siders, one year later.

City Style commemorates the 1 year anniversary of the Gossip Girl finale with our favorite style moments from the show that  will forever  leave its mark the fashion landscape.

I’ve been watching Gossip Girl since the night it first premiered when I was in 5th grade. The show has no doubt had an influence on both my love of fashion and my love of New York City. One year ago from yesterday, December 17th, the finale aired and I said goodbye to characters I had (literally) grown up watching.

Fashion was an essential part of the Gossip Girl phenomenon. Show creator Josh Schwartz said, “we wanted fashion to be a character on the show.” What was magical though was how costume designer, Eric Daman, used this notion to mold the characters’ identities. Each character’s sense of style reflected who they were. In an interview, Leighton Meester said, “I put on the clothes, and suddenly I’m [Blair].” Daman transformed Blair, Serena, Chuck, Jenny and Nate (no, not Lonely Boy) into fashion icons and established Gossip Girl’s as a fashion power.

Even though Gossip Girl has finished airing, it’s not really over. In everyday life, upper class teens are everywhere and fashion is still important to teens. Some people do look up to them for inspiration, as a role model to follow. I believe that City Style truly reflects that even one year later, Goosip Girl Fashion is still so chic & stylish.
