College Fashionista Feature

In Etc. on October 5, 2014 at 3:30 pm

Big thanks to my friend Laurise for featuring my outfit on her College Fashionista column. I paired my favorite black tank top with these cool pants for a look that was perfect for a day of work @ Girls’ Life mag.

Two Ways to Wear It: Lush Tank Top

In Etc. on June 27, 2014 at 6:08 pm

This Lush tank top from BP Nordstrom has become my summer staple, so much so that I just had to purchase it in black too. Its simple swish provides the top with an innate ability to flatter any figure and work with every outfit. Whether I am headed to my internship at Girls Life magazine, touring my hometown, DC, or spending the night with friends, I always find an excuse to sport this versatile top.

Worn with my army green skinny jeans, a fun necklace and kickass heels for a stylish afternoon of shopping in Georgetown. Another way to wear:

Paired with my light pink Tildon shorts from Savvy and studded sandals for a day at the park.

Casually Glamorous

Feeling casually glamorous in my Way In jumpsuit from BP on this sunny day downtown. Paired with my favorite Steve Madden heels, it’s hard to not feel like a movie star in this #ootd.

City Style

It’s Christmastime in New York City! City Style DC heads to the Big Apple and takes on the Upper East Side.

High waisted pants and a cold shoulder top for an unusually warm winter morning in NYC. I found these trendy pants at Target actually, and they are surprisingly comfy and decent quality. My black and white chiffon top was the perfect partner for these patterned pants. The contrasting colors of the shirt bring out the blacks and whites in the gray-toned pants. Polished off the look with silver statement earrings and my favorite black booties from Nordstrom.

It was amazing to be back in New York for the holidays.

Wishing you a happy holiday!
xoxo, jo

Shopping by the Sea

City Style DC goes shopping on Captiva Island

For winter break, I am vacationing on tiny Captiva Island on the West Coast of Florida. The island is full of cozy restaurants and shops nestled under Palm trees and the warm sun. I found this boutique, Chloe’s of Captiva, on the island’s main street. The store is adorable; it is stocked with trendy beachwear, ranging from casual shorts and tank tops to maxi dresses and skirts. The store is organized by price, with the more casual clothing in the front and the more high end clothing in an alcove in the back. Every piece exudes a beachy, nautical vibe. Anchor embellishments and stripes are a recurring theme in both sections of the store, and pastels and brights dominate the color palette. Chloe’s is the ideal island boutique and I’m so glad I found it!

Merry Christmas!

Spotted: Gossip Girl Fashion, 1 Year Later

In Etc. on December 18, 2013 at 1:00 pm

An ode to our favorite Upper East Siders, one year later.

City Style commemorates the 1 year anniversary of the Gossip Girl finale with our favorite style moments from the show that  will forever  leave its mark the fashion landscape.

I’ve been watching Gossip Girl since the night it first premiered when I was in 5th grade. The show has no doubt had an influence on both my love of fashion and my love of New York City. One year ago from yesterday, December 17th, the finale aired and I said goodbye to characters I had (literally) grown up watching.

Fashion was an essential part of the Gossip Girl phenomenon. Show creator Josh Schwartz said, “we wanted fashion to be a character on the show.” What was magical though was how costume designer, Eric Daman, used this notion to mold the characters’ identities. Each character’s sense of style reflected who they were. In an interview, Leighton Meester said, “I put on the clothes, and suddenly I’m [Blair].” Daman transformed Blair, Serena, Chuck, Jenny and Nate (no, not Lonely Boy) into fashion icons and established Gossip Girl’s as a fashion power.

Answer the 10 questions which are given to you by the nominator.
Nominate 10 other bloggers for this award who have less than 200 followers.

Hair, for sure.
