Let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good sweater? They are one of the two articles of clothing that allow me to personalize my uniform. Straight and simple, sweaters are great.

This season it’s all about collegiate “varsity” style sweaters. From Target to Isabel Marant we’ve got you covered!

UES Gossip: Fallin’ for Fall

In NYC Style, UES Gossip on August 22, 2013 at 5:25 pm

If you’re anything like me, then you are absolutely crazy for fall (and the fashion that comes with it). Don’t even get me started on my love of tall boots, jeans and a cozy sweater.

A few weeks ago I wrote about the Pantone’s colors for fall, which are spot on this season. Here at City Style NYC we’ve noticed some major trends: some are hits and some.. misses.

Camouflage – Personally, I don’t understand this trend. How green and black meshed together can look good on anyone? I might have to make a citizens style arrest if we see anyone in this disastrous don’t.

Leather – Anytime, anyplace! I love leather. It’s sexy, edgy, chic, and classic all at the same time. This fall I have seen a lot of leather detailing on t-shirts (you can see Jordan rock that trend below), jeans, and jackets. But I have also seen full on leather pieces like moto jackets, dresses, and my personal favorite… leather a-line skirts! I am lovin’ Proenza Schouler, Just Cavalli, Philip Lim 3.1 and Prada!

Classic Prints – Houndstooth and tweed are full on Brit. But don’t go overboard too much, as we don’t want the royal family for mistaking you for one of their own. My favorite way to rock this look is to sport a printed jacket and keep the rest of the outfit totally minimal. This look is totally Blair Waldorf! I am lusting over Rag and Bone’s perfect execution of these timeless prints.

Leopard – It’s the fall of the wild (Jordan gets creative license for that name). I LOVE leopard. Sweaters, jackets, coats, bags, and boots. This season Christian Louboutin, Giambattista Valli, and Moschino are making us growl with envy!

Jordan totally rocking leather detailing.

Just Cavalli

Rag and Bone

Leopard Christian Louboutin’s

As you prepare for your return to school, remember to be confident as that is a girl’s best accessory.

UES Gossip: Adrien Answers

In NYC Style, UES Gossip on August 15, 2013 at 11:36 pm

As Jordan announced, City Style has been nominated for the Liebster award! She answered the questions we have been asked and now it’s my turn to give you an inside look at my interests other than fashion. To check out Jordan’s questions click here: here

1. Do you take more time doing your hair or makeup when getting ready?
Definitely make up. I have thick and curly hair but always have it blown out.

2. If you had the chance, would you be a on a game show?
Yes – Jeopardy. I would totally fail at it but would love doing it either way!

3. If you could meet one celebrity who would it be?
Joan Rivers – she is my idol, neighbor, and fellow Upper East Sider.

4. What’s your dream house like?
House on 5th avenue and another one in the 17th arrondissement in Paris.

5. If you could go back in time to relive a memory or change something, would you?
Yes. I’m a very nostalgic person and tend to think about the past more than the present.

6. Do you prefer dogs or cats?
Cats, but I’m allergic.

7. What’s one thing you don’t leave the house without? Excluding your phone.
My Louis Vuitton.

8. If you could commit one crime without getting caught, what would it be?
I don’t know… I’m a very boring person.

9. What’s your favorite animal?

10. What’s your favorite season?

Congratulations to all the other nominees!

Xx, A

On those summer days when the temperature more closely resembles late March than early August, my go-to outfit is a light weight pair of pants paired with a neutral blouse. This pair from Urban Outfitters was perfect for my day downtown. The blouse was a gem I found at Joe Fresh and has become a cool day essential. The bag is an old Jessica Kagan Cushman and my hair tie-which I am in love with and scared to use-is Chanel. I got it for my birthday and have only used it a few times, but on a day like today when I am out with friends, I wanted to go for something special. Lastly, my shoes were a birthday present and they are from Zara. I am so in love with them I’ve barely had a chance to take them off!

Style tip: When wearing worn pants, style the rest of your outfit in a feminine palette. That way, your look won’t be mistaken for grunge.

UES Gossip: Bergdorf Goodman

In NYC Style, UES Gossip on August 7, 2013 at 10:15 pm

The window dressings at Bergdorf offer the same wonderful thrill to us New Yorkers that we get whenever they host a fabulous sale. I read once in Harper’s Bazaar that “windows at Bergdorf Goodman prove that looking can be more fun than shopping.”

On a recent Saturday I was talking a stroll and instead of doing my traditional weekend walk up Madison, I decided to go in the opposite direction. Before I knew it, I had made it to 57th street and the beautiful Bergdorf was standing before me. My mother did always tell me, “When in doubt, go to Bergdorf!”

To celebrate the fact that Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf is now available On Demand starting today, I thought I would share with you the current window dressings.

The recurrence of geometric figures in the windows is reflective of the clean lines and patterns that dominate this seasons’ fashion.

In Her Shoes: Day In The Life of a Seventeen Intern

In DC Fashion, In Her Shoes, NYC Style, UES Gossip on August 7, 2013 at 12:30 pm

CityStyle chats with Devin Alessio, Johns Hopkins student and intern extraordinaire, about her experience at the largest teen fashion magazine in the nation.

To any magazine editor hopeful out there, walking into the doors of the Hearst Tower everyday for work is a dream come true. For Johns Hopkins senior, New Jersey native, fashionista, and Hunger Games aficionado, Devin Alessio, this dream is her reality! City Style made its way up from the UES and DC to sit down with Devin and to chat about how she landed an internship at Seventeen, tips on becoming an intern, her daily duties, and her fall clothing must-haves!

Road To Seventeen!

Devin had an internship at the Baltimore based tween magazine, Girl’s Life. GL was an amazing opportunity for Devin, as it gave her hands-on experience at a publication and opened major doors for her. During her time at GL, she met a woman who also worked at Seventeen. This woman helped her land an internship the following summer at Seventeen . Devin loved being at Seventeen so much and refused to be forgotten by her editors. She kept up with them via email throughout the school year just to keep her foot in the door. When it came time to find an internship for this summer, naturally, Devin went to Seventeen. Her tip: never take no for an answer!

Tips on becoming an Intern

Devin said that it is important to be persistent in order to achieve your goals and encouraged us to become involved with things we are passionate about, whether it is writing for our school newspaper or working on the yearbook. In high school, Devin was lucky enough to find a job at her local newspaper. Devin was persistent and called the paper quite frequently, until there was a job available for her. You go girl! Devin stresses the importance of applying for jobs at places you can really see yourself working. For Devin, Seventeen was her first choice because she “really believed in the magazine.” She was so passionate about Seventeen’s Body Peace initiative and really wanted to be a part of it.

Due to the rising use of social media, Devin tells us it is helpful to know how to use HTML. Ladies and gents: get your books out, HTML is the texting language of the online world! And her tip on how to have a successful blog: integrating photos and videos into your posts to show your readers that you have a good eye when it comes to style.

Day In The Life of a Seventeen Intern

Devin arrives at the amazing Hearst Tower for work every morning at 10:30 am. Her day begins with collecting story ideas from other media websites that she thinks would appeal to the audience, and then sends those ideas to her editors. “I like to get to work early and stay late. I can’t leave unless the job is done” she tells us. Currently, a major project she is working on is the Real Girl’s Guide to Back to School Style. Devin scoured Instagram to find the best teen style, then reached out to 50 girls whose photographs would be featured on the website (CityStyle blogger, Jordan, will be featured in this!). So, if you are in need of back-to-school inspiration, check out to see the latest on how to look amazing for the first day!

Perks of her job include rubbing shoulders with celebs in the office, reading the magazine before it goes to print, and getting a sneak peak at all the amazing fashion. Devin says the best thing about working at Seventeen is her freedom to write about what she is interested in and being surrounded by amazing people. Most recently, editor-in-chief, Ann Shoket and publisher, Jayne Jamison, treated all of Seventeen’sinterns to Crumbs cupcakes and sat down with them for a Q & A session. Ann shared with the interns the importance of connecting with readers and how she chooses to catch cabs rather than take the subway specifically so she can spend those few extra minutes above ground tweeting, instagraming, and facebooking herSeventeen readers. Love her!
