What Would Blair Wear?

Channeling Blair Waldorf for my First Interview

Naturally, the first thing that comes to every girls mind upon landing an interview is, “What am I going to wear?!” For my first real interview (excluding my Lifeguard interview, which was pretty chill), this question became a crisis. Do I wear a dress or skirt? Heels or flats? But most importantly, how can I let my personal style shine through? I was totally clueless when it came to how to dress professionally.

I decided to turn to Gossip Girl‘s Blair Waldorf for inspiration. As you all know, Blair is my icon and her wardrobe exudes a stylish sophistication. Alex, the manager at my local BP Nordstrom, was able to help me put together this adorable blazer-blouse combo that was fun and stylish, yet professional and totally Blair. I decided to sport the bold black and navy combo and borrowed my mom’s black Paige pants with leather down the side. I finished off the look with my favorite high heeled booties and a girly necklace to compliment the blouse.

Would Blair approve? I think yes.

It’s Christmastime in New York City! City Style DC heads to the Big Apple and takes on the Upper East Side.

High waisted pants and a cold shoulder top for an unusually warm winter morning in NYC. I found these trendy pants at Target actually, and they are surprisingly comfy and decent quality. My black and white chiffon top was the perfect partner for these patterned pants. The contrasting colors of the shirt bring out the blacks and whites in the gray-toned pants. Polished off the look with silver statement earrings and my favorite black booties from Nordstrom.

It was amazing to be back in New York for the holidays.

Wishing you a happy holiday!

From Tartan to Punk: Winter’s Most Wearable Trends

In Chicago Style on December 4, 2013 at 1:15 pm

Happy December, City Style!

As November and its unpredictable mix of temperatures are finally behind us, it is officially winter in the Windy City. The infamous Chicago weather pulls a Billy Joel and goes to the extreme: numbingly cold temperatures, overcast skies, and strong winter wind validate the city’s nickname of the “Windy City”.  These severe weather conditions make it difficult for even the chicest fashionistas to adapt. How are we supposed to rock a plaid-and-leather mini skirt when it’s -20 degrees outside?! Luckily for you, I have discovered that this seasons most coveted trends are in fact wearable in winter weather.

Perhaps the easiest to wear, monochrome pervaded the Fall/Winter Ready-to-wear runways at major houses including Celine and Alexander Wang’s Balenciaga. When dressing in monochrome, there is a fine line between chic and, as we say in French, ennuyeux (translation: boring). To stay en vogue, add some variety to your outfit by playing with different textures. Add touches of faux fur, leather, or jacquard and you’re golden. Layers are key for braving the cold, and a perfect way to incorporate texture into your outfit.  Wool tights, knee socks, faux fur gilets, and patterned scarves are necessities. Hit up Zara and H&M for affordable pieces that can be easily assimilated into your winter wardrobe.

Ever since its nascence centuries ago, tartan (plaid’s older sister) has been a staple pattern. This season, tartan was seen all over the runways; from Givenchy where artistic director, Riccardo Tisci, used tartan to embellish his rocker-inspired collection, to Versace, where tartan decorated a variety of silhouettes.  Whether you only want to dip your toes in tartan or dive right in, keep it chic by accessorizing minimally and not mixing patterns.  Turn to Topshop and Nordstrom for classic tartan and plaid pieces.

Moto Black Check Leigh Jeans – Topshop ($80)

Eyelash Plaid Cardigan – Nordstrom ($68)

Ever since boyfriend jeans became all the rage, women all over the world have realized that it is possible to wear menswear without actually looking like a man.  Leandra Medine, the “man repeller” herself, has proven this theory to be true, outfitting herself in suits, shoulder pads, and various clothing items commonly reserved for men, yet she still manages to look undeniably chic.  Designers such as Donna Karan, Emporio Armani, and Richard Nicoll included menswear-for-women in this seasons collections, outfitting models in tailored separates and structured coats.  Though wearing a full on suit is perfectly feasible if that’s your style, I recommend wearing menswear extras, such as loafers, oversized coats, and dress shirts for a  look more hallway than runway.  Here are a few options from Need Supply and Zara:

Jacquard Trousers with Turn-Up Hem – Zara ($59.90)

Carmen Double-Breasted Coat – Need Supply ($110)

Cheers to staying fashionably warm!

The Leather Games

UES Blogger, Adrien, dishes on Fashion’s Favorite Fabric

My love for edgy leather accents has reached an ultimate high. Leather has been spotted everywhere this season from David Neville and Marcus Wainwright’s Rag & Bone runway to the coveted racks of  fast fashion chain, Zara. I cannot get enough of this lust worthy trend. The Spring 14 collections have solidified the omnipresent notion that leather is here to stay.

The secret to rocking this cool material? Minimalism.  Going overboard will have you and your leather jacket will be sent straight back to the 80’s.The best way to keep leather minimal is choosing key pieces that accentuate leather. On the UES, we love leather panel leggings, blouses with leather cap sleeves and small accessories like leather gloves and this Zara leather baseball cap pictured below.

Leather is the easiest way to achieve an effortlessly luxe look. Teen Vogue called leather leggings ” a major wardrobe mainstay because they’re just as wearable as a pair of jeans, but with a decidedly more luxe appeal.”

Take a look at our favorite hallway approved pieces from high school hot spots, BP Nordstrom and Zara.

{ZARA-Clockwise from left: Faux Leather Biker Jacket – $99.00// Combined Faux Leather Leggings -$49.90 //Knitted Faux Leather Hat – $19.90}

{BP-Clockwise from left: Topshop ‘Acute’ Monk Strap Bootie – $140.00 (similar to those pictured)// Brand and Label Collection Perforated Faux Fur Vest – $58.00 // Collection B Faux Leather and Canvas Backpacknow $32.16// Articles of Society ‘Mya’ Coated Skinny Jeans – $78.00}

Whether you’re rocking your leather on the streets of NYC or the school hallways, may the odds be leather in your favor.

Your Stylish New BFF

Nordstrom’s new Pocket Style service provides fashion advice at the tip of your fingers.

Nordstrom has just introduced a brand new service that allows their customers to text in style questions and receive advice from the fashion experts at the Nordstrom Headquarters.

Being a member of Nordstrom’s BP Fashion Board, I had the opportunity to test drive this amazing service. I asked for advice on how to style a  pair of Dr. Martens (as they are becoming increasingly prevalent amongst girls my age), and was thrilled when I got a speedy response featuring numerous options, all tailored to fit my personal style. After utilizing the service, I spoke on the phone with Nordstrom and provided them with feedback.

I loved how they customized their advice to fit my personal style. All of the potential outfits they recommended I  wear with Dr. Martens were  outfits I could see myself wearing. That personal touch made it a lot easier to connect with the person behind the phone.

I highly recommend signing up for this amazing service. To sign up, head to:

And a HUGE thank you to Nordstrom for the sweet gift!

Jordan Gets Ready for Fall Fashion

A casual OOTD to welcome autumn weather. I love these pants that I purchased from Nordstrom’s Junior department, BP. They are super comfortable and fit really nicely. They are also high waisted, which gives them a ton of versatility. The possibilities are endless with these classic pants. I chose to keep it simple, and paired them with this sleeveless Leopard print blouse and gray cardigan, both also from BP.

Happy (almost) fall!
